Ronnie's Works - Take 2

Postby dillonmr » Sat Nov 23, 2013 9:23 pm

I posted a project thread before but it was very short. I was going to do a full thread, but to be honest the time involved to go through what I've done is too daunting to begin with. So I thought I'd post a better list of what's done and some pics of the latest mods/upgrades. In short car is immaculately maintained, fully serviced and gets half service oil changes. Hand washed and detailed. It took me a long time to get the car with the right spec I was after and since then I've been upgrading both for style and performance and now I think its definitely one of the best around at least in Ireland.

Great looking car, nice mods too.

The plastidip is great stuff, very easy to use. I'm addicted to using the stuff.

so finally got round to fitting a cpl more mods, including a R56 shift light onto the steering column (had to do bit of dremeling so will need a donor cover when going back to OEM). Also got round to fitting the Schroth Quick Fit 4 harness on drivers side, perfect for road car and the occasional track session as its removable, uses the factory seat belt fittings and more importantly will work with the tensioners if god forbid there is a crash. oh and a also a cpl of JCW chequered front mats that by chance came my way (cant say it was a very taxing install ;) )

So decided to grease myself up and fit some powerflex bushes as follows:
Powerflex Gearbox Mounting Bush
Powerflex Lower Engine Support Bush - Small
Powerflex Lower Engine Mount Replacement Large Bush
Powerflex Rear Anti Roll Bar Bush Set

Install was easy enough and comprised of the following:

First up wis the Gearbox Mounting Bush - Put car on axel stands, then removed the airbox and ECU to give access to gear mount. Removed the mount while supporting the gearbox with my trolley jack. The inserts were easy to fit then jsut stuck everything back togethers.

Next was was the Lower Engine Mount Buses - While the car was on stands I removed the nearside wheel to give easier access to below and removed the mount (again supporting engine with trolley jack). I used a trended bar and a combination of bolts washers, sockets and some large steel cylinders I had lying around to push out the existing bushes and cleaned the mount to receive the new bushes. I went with the new larger mount that Lohen are stocking which is a full replacement for the original (see below picture). I didn't install it with the black centre ring as its really for track use. Reinstall was simple enough and again torqued bolts as per bentley specs.

Finally was the Rear Anti Roll Bar Bush Set - I jacked the rear of the car onto axel stands to take the load off the ARB. When I unbolted the brackets I decided to give them a fresh coat of satin black to clean them up. Installing the bushes was simple and jobs a goodie

so had/having a few bit done to the JCW at the moment. I've upgraded the coils with the new Meister R's, these are a new design from the previous ones just out and work with 10mm preload. Have to say they have completely transformed the ride quality (and performed outstanding at the OTD on Friday).

Next up are the 17" Team Dynamics 1.2's (Matt Black) which are currently getting fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's which should serve her well for the next while.

Finally I managed to get hold of one of the holy grail of rarity items when it comes to the R53, a genuine pair of Orciari Scuttle Vents. Have these going in to get colour coded and then will get fitted. torn between what colour to go for black or dark grey so might plastidip them black to see how they look.

Car's just had a full Inspection II with full fluid replacement and front brake pad (Mintex 1144's) by Ger and Aidan in O'Leary's so she's purring and was a joy to drive at OCT this week.
