2000 MPI Mini Cooper in Cork (advice needed)

Postby John_h4 » Thu Aug 21, 2014 12:03 pm

Hi All,

I've been reading the site for a while (great info) and have finally made the decision to jump into classic Mini ownership!

I have been looking for a while and have schooled up on what I should be looking for (..something about some rust issues :) )

Anyway I'm living in Meath and the car that I'm looking to buy is in Cork. I'm heading down this Saturday to have a look and all going well buy it. The owner seems very genuine and has given me all the info I have requested. He told me about a paint bubble below the windscreen (not sure if it is on the scuttle or the bonnet) but apart from that there are no visible signs of rust. It was an import from the UK and can be more susceptible to rust.

There was also some mod's to the car namely removing the MPI steering wheel and replacing with a MOMO removable one, star mag alloys (will want to change these at some stage) and a lot of other refurb work completed as well.

I've included a link to the ad below and really I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with the car on the forum?

I've read some stories about the cost (when you include removing the wings etc, labour and painting of replacing a scuttle panel) and any advice would be really appreciated.

Here's the link anyways and by the way great site!

That looks lovely.
Hope it all goes well.

Where in Meath are you from, John?

Hi Derfinn,

Took a spin down at the weekend and while the car was in great mechanical order it just wasn't for me, it was a long, sad drive home!

Do not worry fella.

I remember being the exact same! Hang in there! I am sure that a mini is out there for you...waiting to be found :) Stick to your guns and know the warning signs to look out for!

Good luck with your quest :)

I'm sure you'll find the right one.

Btw I'm a fellow Meath man, originally from Lobinstown, but now settled in Nth Co Dub!
