S Speccin' - again........

Postby AidenL » Sat Nov 01, 2014 6:03 pm

Howdy all,

So, I'm thinking of coming back to the fold, but I'm very up in the air on the specie front, as I was back in 2002.

So lest assume the following for starters:

Cooper S 3 door - Petrol ! :1icon_redface:

Between black with a black roof, or black with a white roof.

Chilli Pack
Leather Cross Punch Carbon Black
Tentacle wheels
Seat heating
Chromeline interior
Front armrest
LED headlights
Visual boost

Thats the basics - on top of that I'm thinking about adding:

JCW steering wheel
JCW roof spoiler
Anthracite headlining

Now, I like the idea of Chilli red with a black roof - is Chilli red available with the JCW kit?

For interior trim, I had a notion for glowing red as the colour line - probably better on a CR car, as opposed to a black one.

Few questions:

Is album art displayed while streaming form an iPhone or only when connected via USB?

Whats the best dash trim? Piano Black shows fingerprints too much?

Any thoughts on the JCW kit?

Tint the rear windows or not?

Anyone have an experience of the 18" wheel upgrade on the JCW kit? Ride harsh or not?

And a big one - S petrol or S diesel - over here, I think the diesel will always have a better resale value......but I like the idea of a petrol car for the pops and burbles, its a bit special.

And as a curveball, what about a factory JCW next Spring?

Thoughts appreciated !

Also, any recommended dealers to do business with?

Was in Joe Duffys last week on Tuesday, the sales guy didn't even speak to us after 15 minutes in the showroom. We walked out.

Tried Frank Keane afterwards on Wednesday, had a test drive and a good chat with two guys in sales, but still haven't had any final figures or trade in prices.

Wondering what dealers are keenest to do a deal these days?

Hi Aiden ! :)

I'd recommend Morrisons in Cahir.

The F56 is a great car and an S seems to be fantastic.

Nice to see you back speccing Aiden!

I tried going to Joe Duffy for each of my MINIs, but have never been impressed. Bolands in Waterford sold me my first 2, and Frank Keane sold me my second 2.

Alan in Frank Keane's was extremely helpful when I was buying the Countryman. I was toying with getting the HK stereo upgrade, and he was brilliant and doing the pros and cons on it. All I ever got in Joe Duffy's was bored sighs!

Crikey Aiden.
That sounds like a seriously impressive spec. Good job! :tl:

Alan is really good, I like the way that he tells it like it is, and whether an option is worth it or not! Good to see that Chilli Red is the colour.....again!

Will be interesting to hear how you get on with the 2.0lt petrol. The one regret I still have with my Countryman was that I got the SD. Yes, it will have a better resale value (whenever that will be......) but it just doesn't sound right!

That is a very quick delivery time also. At least you won't have long to wait.

I agonised over petrol vs diesel a lot.

Denise does very little mileage, 10k km per year. Id say a tenner a week will be the max difference over the diesel, and compared to the cost of running the Sportage she has right now, id say break even actually.

Alan swears there will be max € 1k difference in petrol and diesel at trade in time - I'm sucking some of that up on the monthlies as I have went PCP anyway - I think there will always be a customer (like some of us) who will fancy the idea of a petrol car for fun, so I'm hopeful it won't be a financial disaster !

Hi Aidan

Great to have you back in the fold again! Car sounds great mate I am sure you'll be delighted with it. I met Alan as well after having a similarly lacklustre experience at Duffy's. He seemed very genuine and happy to help, so if I get the opportunity to buy from him sometime I wouldn't hesitate to do so.

See you soon, the days are counting down :)
