power steering issue

Postby Iggy87 » Tue Oct 13, 2015 10:52 am

Hi All,

I have a question regarding the issue MINI had few year ago about the power steering. Do you know any cases like this that happened in Ireland during this year and if MINI dealers offer any goodwill.. I have contacted one dealer - Frank Keane BMW/Mini and they said to their knowledge this is no longer available..

Btw, I have a blue MINI S Convertible :)

Thanks!

To My knowledge there was never a blanket replacement program for PAS units in Ireland and all were dealt with on a 'goodwill' basis . the USA is different as they had a 10 year warranty on the units following the threat of a 'class action' lawsuit . I have met many many customers that tried to get even goodwill on the units and failed , We do a supply and fit price of € 600 on the units with a 2 year guarantee . also I have never seen a MINI to loose PAS while driving , it is always on startup or when the MINI is switched off the pump continues to run draining the battery .

Typical Daily Mail reporting, the MINI pictured is not even effected by the power steering issues effecting R50 / R53 variants.

Believe Ger to be 100% correct (as usual :-)
Only MINI USA offered a no question replacement.

However, I had a power steering pump failure and had it replaced by Eastern MINI in Edinburgh (I only paid the diagnostic charge and for the fluid). (2006 Cooper S R53, 76,973 miles at time of failure)

But I believe it is up to MINI UK to decide if they will cover it under goodwill, not the individual dealership.
Assume it is the same story at home.
