2008 Mini One 1.4 petrol emissions

Postby smithy56 » Tue Oct 25, 2016 3:54 pm

Hi,

First time on this forum.

I was wondering if anybody can help regrading my nieces car. She has a 2008 Mini One 1.4 petrol and it failed the NCT test for the emissions. It has 95,500miles on the clock.
The results were are follows:
Low Idle:
CO 0.58vol% should be 0.30% or lower
HC 159ppm Should be 0.0ppm

High Idle:
CO 1.38 vol% should be 0.20 or lower
HC 301ppm should be 200ppm or less

The CAT was changed and it made no difference. The timing chain was also change as the VVT adjustment kept going out and it was found that the timing chain was stretched. We also used Dipetane to see if it would reduce the emission. She has now decided not to put anymore money into and wants to get rid of it the way it is.

Anybody got any thoughts on this issue?
Thanks

Hi,
I would think it's excessive oil consumption is causing the problem . Do you have any fault codes ? Is EML light on ? . Depending on diagnostic values it may be worth checking no 1 oxygen sensor . We specialise in M.I.N.I s and find this problem regularly . I assume the correct spec oil is used . High oil consumption is caused by the totally inadequate service intervals in the 1 st few years of use . Anyway the problem can be sorted .give Me a call Tomorrow on 0868663828 or 021 4877158 and I may be able to advise .
Gerard.
