Hi,
So in a rush of blood I bought a 2010 Mini One First (actually manufactured in Oct 09) after test driving it when my old banger gave up on me. It's got 191Kms on the clock. First gear is a bit sticky at times but that might just be me getting used to it. Laquer is starting to peel in a few spots so will need to sort that and needs a good set of tyres but other than that the car is driving well and is in good condition.
I only have a partial service history and noticed that the wrong oil has been used for the last couple of services (10w40 semi synth). Service history I have shows what look like two oxygen sensors replaced in the last 2 years and a solenoid valve replaced.
I had my own mechanic give it the once over and he found a leaking rocker/valve cover gasket which has been repaired under warranty. He's done an oil and filter change and used 5w30 fully syth.
He checked the timing chain and tensioner and reckons they're okay. All in all he reckons the car is in good shape.
However after reading around on several forums about issues with the R56 I'm wondering if I should be looking at changing the timing chain. I've no idea if it's ever been done. Apart from that what kind of things should I be looking out for.
I intend on keeping the car for the next 4/5 years at least so I'd like to make sure it's in good nick now. Anyone recommend a good Mini specialist around the Dublin/Kildare area?
