Project.

Postby PaulMcElhinney » Tue Jul 07, 2009 7:01 pm

Dear Philly,

There is a 1978 Mini Clubman on ebay here in the UK. The owner is looking for £500 or thereabouts for it. Being over 30 years old I know that it wouldn't require your national vehicle test and would cost EUR 48 tax. Have a look at it, it looks pretty good. How much import duty it would cost I don't know, someone told me one third of the purchase cost. Search ebay - 1978 Mini clubman will find it.

Regards,

Paul McElhinney.

Postby beamer » Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:13 pm

Hi all , im new here , been into cars for years , but my son wants an older mini to restore as a project, so as i can do most mechanical ans body repairs all i need is to find a project car for him, so anyone in the cork area with any for sale get in contact .
secondly, if an older mini is imported from the uk , does anyone know how to calculate the duty ?
thanks guys P

Hi and welcome to the site , the most important thing when selecting a project is what are you going to use the final product for , ie everyday use or just shows or shows and runs etc etc , I would recommend a modern classic ie 97 on if the plan is to use it as an everyday car as it will have drivers airbag , multi point injection engine etc etc .if your plans are to just use it as a 'toy'to look to the limited edition minis ie Mini 30 , RSP , Cabriolet , Cooper 35 etc etc or indeed a MK1 or MK2 .parts are readily available and its also possible to 'modernise' when you are restoring ie better brakes etc etc , We get projects in from time to time so please feel free to call me on 086 8663828 anytime and I may be able to help with your search .
