Runflat Light On?

Hi, this is my first post!

I just got a 04 John Cooper Works last week and so far so good, I love it.

This morning the run flat light came on. I pulled in and everything seemed in order but I went and inflated the tyres anyway. Drove to work, and the light is still on. So, I got the book out and it said the light can activate for a couple of different reasons, one of which is wheel spinning, which I did last night whilst bringing my mother in law for a spin (you'd have to, wouldn't you). It also said it can light for under or over inflation. So maybe it came on because of the wheel spin and maybe it is staying on because I have overinflated the tyres? I'm not sure, but does anyone have any advice or maybe know how to reset the light? I tried the button below the handbrake and then driving around for a bit but that didn't work.

Many thanks in advance,
Alan

Hi Alan ,
The light is usually activated when the pressure drops by as little 2psi in any of the 4 tyres , you can reset by holding the button by the handbrake down and then while its still held down switch the ignition on to the 1st position , you will then shortly see the light go out and release the button and start the car and it is then reset .

Many thanks for the quick reply :)

I tried what you suggested and unfortunately the light is still on. It does go out for a second when I switch the ignition to 1st position but then comes back on again.

Regards,
Alan

Ok , try again , press the button and hold , switch on the ignition to the position before 'start' which is actually the 2nd position on the switch and continue to hold the button until the light goes out , this usually takes only as few seconds , when the light disappears let the button go and your system is reset , drive the car a short distance to check .

Great that worked! It seems like I was leaving my finger on the button for too long after the light disappeared. The light went off but then came on again. Releasing the button the split second the light went off did the trick. Went for a spin and it is still off.

Really appreciate the help G.

Many thanks,
Alan

Actually, if that is Aidens, it'll be one hell of a coincidence. I'm really surprised he didn't buy it back.

Ah jeez I'm never on Facebook, lol :(

I was too busy running around doing interviews past few weeks :o

To totally hijack this thread , I'm starting a new job on Tuesday ! TT had to go, replaced by a diesel Opel Insignia :o 160 bhp, Elite, but I just copped on its a MY 2009 car , no USB, so no iPod control, so chat with dealer coming up !

I'll be on the road a LOT with the new job , so may be hitting Cork soon !
