Welcome aboard Jack, very jealous of you having a 78 - it's the year I'm dying to get my hands on. One of the classic Gurus will be in shortly to answer your question!

Hi Jack ,
I would use a decent 20/50 mineral oil , Duckhams , or indeed Valvoline 20/50 mineral oil , DO NOT use semi synthetic or Synthetic oil as it will cause slipping and serious damage to your autobox .

Welcome to the site Jack,
As a fellow automatic mini owner it is great to have you on board, 20/50 mineral oil is the only one to use for all the right reasons on your 78 clubman. I would recommend you change the oil every 2000 miles if possible and 3000 as most for better results. I have had my 80s mini back on the road for the last year and getting great fun fom it. Had intended in selling it but this really is a 100% fun car. hope to see you on some runs in the future. Best of luck with the oil change etc.

thanks for the advice
have changed the oil and have used the 20/50 mineral oil, but the thought that i have the back of my simple brain
is there separate gear box oil to use or is the automatic the same as the all older minis , that the engine oil and gear box oil the same system , in that when u change the oil you are cahnging the gear box oil..jusyt have this fear in the back of my mind.???
one other thing am going to run it on the original 10 inch wheel is there any tyre man u can recommend..all garages i have tried do not stock them..what about alloys..minilites ???

Engine and gearbox are the same so no need to worry. I ordered tyres in EPT tyres in Ballincollig and had them in 3 days.

cheers
