Clutch problem?

Postby LegoGirl » Mon Aug 30, 2010 9:47 am

Hi Guys!

Have just found this site while looking for some answers to my mini problem - it's great! :)

I have a 2003 Mini Cooper and I think the clutch is about to go. I have had trouble getting it into reverse for the last few months. Recently when i am accelerating in 2nd or 3rd, sometimes the gear stick rattles a lot.

Yesterday when driving in Wicklow I noticed that it's just not driving right :( It seems to be revving a lot when accelerating and when I change gear there seems to be a bit of a delayed reaction and then it revs a lot. Any ideas?

I tried calling Paul Kelly this morning, but his phone is off! Any advice appreciated - I really don't want to get ripped off by a BMW garage! :1icon_cry:

Thanks!

Sounds like the clutch is worn and is now slipping, There will be another member on soon to address your problem and give you a better value offer for a repair. In the meantime it is best to use the car as little as possible.

Its sounds like your clutch is just worn out , it happens and is just normal wear and tear , I am confused though because the symptoms of difficulty getting into gear are different to the usual 'slip' as described . I would suggest you also have the gearbox oil changed when the job is being done as the gearboxes are also a weak point on early MINIs and need lubricants to be in good condition to remain healthy . We run a specialist mini and MINI workshop and We can help you but it will require a trip to Cork, we have lots of customers in Dublin and with advance planning we can work on the minimum of downtime for your MINI . btw Paul specialises in classic minis not MINIs . hope this helps and please PM me if I can help further .

As Ger said, Paul is great for the older classic shaped Minis, but for the new BMW MINIs, you're best to leave it to someone with experience. Ger/irlmin is the man fror that, and if you make it to Cork to sort it, you can pop into the local shopping centres/tourist areas to kill time while it's being done.

I'll move your topic into the correct area now, and welcome to the site. We've a huge event in September with plenty of cars coming down from Dublin to the midlands, you could come in Convoy with them, you'd be down in a little over an hour and get to cruise with 110 other Minis!
