Hi I'm new to the mini game and purchased my first cooper mpi during the summer. During a quick service at the weekend I noticed tiny chunks of metal on the sump plug (magnet), filings were noticed on it approx 1 month ago when I last serviced it and I planned on keeping an eye on it hence the brief service interval (Note these are bigger than filings and I kept a hold of them), I am not in a place to start detective work on it, so was hoping someone might be able to help or know of someone who may be good at gearboxes/reconditioning? I say this as its probably a part/parts from the gearbox thats gone seen as it occasionally pops out of second when coming off the throttle. The car has been parked up since.

Hi Bucko and Welcome to the forum
There is an excellent Mini and MINI specialist only down the road from you in Ballincollig in Cork. It's O'Leary's Garage and they have years and years of experience in all things Mini. They do their own on site rebuilding of gearboxs and engines also. Give them a buzz. The contact is Ger O'Leary on 0868663828 and he is on this forum as Irlmin.
Hope this helps,
Fergal.

Can you take a good photo of the piece and post it up here OR PM it to me
we should be able to id it from that but I feel you may need a gearbox rebuild anyway if you are slipping out of 2nd ., welcome to the site btw .

They are defiantly gear teeth , main problem is one of the 'loose' teeth in the casing will get caught between the crown wheel and the diff casing and exit the gearbox in spectacular fashion . sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I am afraid its a gearbox rebuild .
