Dashboard change and Mini originality

Postby minijohn » Sun Aug 05, 2012 9:28 am

Hey,

I have a question.

My Mini has a walnut dash that's falling apart. It needs changing.
I don't like the walnut/wood effect in cars in general.
That being said, the wood leaves a nice scent in the car that I quite like,
It seems to give it a little mor character!

The replacement one I'm looking for is brushed stainless steel and will make
The interior look a bit more modern/cleaner.
I don't like the idea of moving away from the original spec.

My question:
Would replacing the cars dash with a SS alternative take from the originality of the car?
It currently has no after market parts!

All input would be very welcome!

Hi John
The dash you mention was in fact a standard fitment on some of the very last Sportpack minis , there is one in a 2001 reg Classic Mini we have for sale at the moment if you want a look . it has been quiet normal to modify minis since they 1st appeared in 1959 and in fact there was ( and still is ) a thriving market for all types of components to improve the look and indeed performance of the mini and in fact it has happened all over again with the MINI . We have even done several conversions to MPI minis to the 'old' center binnacle 3 clock set-up as seen in 60s Mini Coopers etc , so the answer to your question would be Yes go ahead and put your own 'stamp' on your mini .

Cheers Ger!

Coming from a biking background I hated bikes that had all sorts of extras put on them.
My feelin is original is best.
I'll have a look at that mini when I drop mine in on Wednesday morning.
