NCT disaster

Postby Rosie » Sun Jan 27, 2013 4:54 pm

Hi Everyone,

I had my NCT in November and after my car being off the road for a year and a half I knew it would fail! Decided to bring it and then just fix the things it failed on! So the breaks failed, cv boot, clutch pedal was missing and emissions were high.
Brought it to the mechanic and spent €600 on the breaks and having the head gasket reconditioned (I think that's what they did) brought it back to NCT and it failed on emissions again, nothing else. Brought it to the mechanic again and he didn't charge to sort it out. Went back to the NCT last Monday and This time it failed on emissions, again, and the bloody breaks, again! small amount of rust (NCT guy said filler would sort it) a bearing missing and some rubber torn.

I just wanted to know if anyone could recommend a mini mechanic in Dublin? I've been going to my mechanic for years but I'm starting to feel bad as he doesn't specialise in minis but he does it anyway. After spending all that money and it making NO difference I'm a bit annoyed also!

Brought it down to Cork a few years ago and the garage did an incredible job but I don't have time to bring it there before the re-test.

Any suggestions welcome!

Well fingers crossed I'll find someone in Dublin, if not I'd definatdjw bring it to the guys in Cork again!
The things that failed (in more detail) are the emissions which says 5.77 vol% (above 3.50 fail )
Body work, secondary structure corrosion, panels, offside front.
The brakes rear axle an imbalance of 51%
Steering linkage, steering rack gaiter,frayed/cut.
And lastly the front suspension, ball joints are worn!
Any suggestions greatly appreciated,if I hear nothing I'll just bring it back to my mechanic and keep my fingers crossed!

There is a garage in Dublin called minifix in the north side of the city that you may already have used. I know you would be looked after in O'Leary's garage in Cork as they specialise in NCT pre work on classic and MINI brands. Whatever way you decide I wish you all the best on the work and re test. Keep us updated on how you get on. Based on the work you listed It is going to cost you another 250 - 300 + for the repairs. + cost of the test.

Brakes should be easy enough to balance €30
corrosion can be time consuming allow € 80
frayed rubber can be done in 20 mins € 30
ball joints will need renewing or at best reshimming which is only labour € 80
emissions - tricky to price as it may only need adjustment at best, € ?

Thanks a million!
Didn't know about minifix, I've just been going to the same mechanic since I got the car! He doesn't specialise in minis but had been doing mine for years, I'm just thinking with the emissions still so high after going to see him twice maybe I should get it done elsewhere!
I do however think I should pay a visit down to cork soon enough to O'leary's, they did did amazing work when I brought the car down last time! I just don't have time before the re test but if she fails again I'll definitely bring her to Cork!

Thanks again! I'll give minifix a buzz!
