Advice needed on possible engine replacement.

Hello everyone,
I bought my 2003 MINI Cooper second hand from a car dealer. When I saw the car I fell in love and thought everything seemed fine. I went to see it with my mother and her partner. We looked under the bonnet and saw the engine which turned out to be a Bosch engine but we thought it may have been normal. After taking my car home, I thought that the original MINI engine could have possibly been replaced with the Bosch engine and sold off. We brought my car to our local MINI dealer to have a check up. They told us it was a death trap..... So we brought my car back to the car dealer I bought it from and he said he would repair the things the MINI dealership listed which he did. I'm not sure if it's normal for a 16 year old car but my car struggles at 100kmph in 6th gear. It also has a high pitched noise when I drive but that doesn't bother me that much. It just kind of seems off and I'm wondering if it's worth replacing with an original MINI engine or something else. I don't know that much about mechanics at all so I would appreciate your advice on the situation.
Thank you,
Béibhinn.

Hi Beibhinn ,
I assume you have a Cooper S as its 6 speed ( or a MINI One D ) they are normally pretty 'bulletproof' mechanically . send me a photo of the car and the engine and I can ID what you have . I doubt anyone has fitted another non MINI engine as the process is very difficult and there is really no economical benefit to a change like that , Bosch make electrical components like starter motors and alternators etc etc and not engines , where is the reference to Bosch on the engine ? photo as well please .the high pitched whine is a characteristic of the Cooper S supercharger and depending on how 'whiny' it is it may be normal or suffering with worn bearings in the supercharger , no problem doing these , we repair them all the time . as Fergal said give me a call and if it helps we can have a look over the car and advise best course of action , Gerard

EDIT , Just reread your 1 st post and realise its a MINI D you have , this has a Toyota 1.4 turbo Diesel engine and a 6 speed gearbox , as above give Me a call and We will advise if it helps . G
