DO NOT EVER use any domestic washing up liquid to was your car , Classic minis don't need the help this stuff will give to induce rust , they are full of salt and can it can get stuck in all the nooks and crannies of a Mini . always use a decent car wash like Meguires or Auto-glym .

As Ger said, washing up liquid is filled with good old NaCL (Sodium Chloride, Salt!) and will dissolve most metals over a lenghty time, meaning you won't notice any oxidisation until it's too late and the damage has been gradually done.

Any decent Motor Factors will stock Autoglym or Meguiars products. It's worth spending the extra few pounds on the correct products to get the results.

Ok, it seems my Detailing and Valeting skills are a little below par, tomorrow I will visit the local Autofactors and get something better then fairy. I will do my best to have herself gleaming on Saturday... Weather primitting.

Right then if your going to the motor factors id recommend the following

A good shampoo, Auto Gylm, Triple Wax etc

A Polish - Auto glym super resin, ultra deep shine or something

A Wax - Simoniz or meguiars or something

something to clean the windows with - Auto Gylm Fast Glass

something to dress the tyres - AG instant tyre dressing

oh and some autosol for the chrome 8)

we wont go on about not washing with a sponge yet!

break you in easy :D

The problem is, once you have learned how to do it the "right" way, there is never such a thing as a "quick" wash of the car again. :) And you start to accumulate all sorts of bottles of wash and wax and polish and god knows what else.

I have made a list, I will see what I can do tomorrow, I use Autofactors in Waterford, hopefully they will have some of the brands you mentioned.
I have a mit for washing is that ok?

A mit is supposed to be the job for washing even though I still use a sponge
Just make sure to keep rinsing the mit. You can buy a Meguiars Bucket that has a false floor in that keeps the grit and dirt away from the mit.
