Image Guidelines

Postby Owen » Mon Apr 07, 2008 9:48 pm

I'm announcing an image size guideline. People are posting HUGE images, which cause the need to scroll both horizontally, or vertically, which is taking a lot of my time to rectify. So from now on, an image can be no wider than 640 pixels (A common size would be 640x480), if it's more I will delete it.

If you don't know how to resize an image, it's easy to learn. Google it, and you will find many many tools to do it, most of them free. Sorry to be so heavy handed, but because the site is getting so popular, it's starting to take up much more of my time now.

I've placed a file you can install on your Windows XP computer for download on our server. Once you install this program, all you need to do is right click any image, or images, and click 'Resize Pictures' from the menu that appears. Then choose the 'small' setting, and it will resize the image by creating a copy of the file for you. You upload the new file, not the original.

<A HREF="http://miniclub.ie/downloads/resizer.exe">You can download the program here!</A>

No no no no no, no apologies are needed from anyone. It's not a dressing down to anyone, in fact, the opposite. It's great that the site is so busy! Just hoping people get the hang of it by posting the guidelines for them to follow, it won't just help you with miniclub.ie, but with lots of online forums!

If you have problems resizing the images, use another program. Microsoft do a fantastic one, called resizer, I'm going to update the original post with the details on that.

Personally i use Photoshop CS for resizing and editing.

As for Photobucket, which can do quite alot these days, see below the section you need to resize (hence the red stars for clarification)....

Then copy and paste the [IMG] code into the reply box to here on MCOI for the image to appear.

Hope that helps 8)

Will have to start doing this!

Always wondered how&why all my pics were spilling over the edge!

Never really looked at all the Photobucket functions, only wanted to post and go!

Will be more carefully in the future!
