Downtime for Upgrades

Postby Owen » Tue May 06, 2008 11:21 pm

Hi guys,

I'm working on some upgrades to the site, but they're significant. Wondering it it's okay with everyone to give miniclub.ie some downtime in the next week or so?

Well, so far with the upgrades, I've created a copy of the site here locally on one of my own machines at home, and I'm testing everything here first before uploading. So hopefully, it should be a case of downtime for about 2-3 hours, then happy sailing.

There are some very productive upgrades in the pipeline, but be patient, they'll be worth it!

Fair play Owen, we dont realise the work involved to keep the site going and in working order.

Ah shucks, thanks Starry. So far, I've gotten a few things working at home, such as if a new person joins the site, and says hello in a separate thread instead of the main one, I can now merge the threads, which is something the software never had before. I also have in place protection to automatically reformat very long webpage links, so if you post an eBay link to an item that normally causes the screen to scroll horizontally, this will just truncate it, and create a few lines instead of one long one.

There are plans in place to come up with some new graphics, automatically resizing images if people post huge ones, and some other stuff which may, or may not be possible that I'll keep mum on until I get it working.

Overall, you won't see a huge difference to the site as a user, but the functionality will be vastly improved to cope with our ever expanding membership!

Fair play Owen well done!

The resizing will be cool, was messing about with Photobucket, and was at a bit of a loss, so that will be very handy!

I was thinking that it must have been something to do with storage!!! 8O

Good luck with the updates, will have to stock up on back issues of Modern MINI mag to help cope with the cool turkey!

Did some upgrades around 6 this morning, mostly just to add in the thread merge function. If you notice anything broken, let me know in this thread, no need for a PM.

On the subject of PMs, the PM link to check, and send messages is now only on the MINI Menu on the left.

Owen,

I was trying to post a new topic under the MINIs in the Media thread, but everytime I hit submit, I get taken back to the Home page. Have tried it 3 or 4 times, and this happens even if I hit the preview button!

As if you weren't busy enough withthe upgrades!

Okay, that is weird. I'll take a look when I'm home this evening for you Derfinn. Thanks for the headsup.

Just checked Derfinn, and there's no issue. Could you try clearing your browser's cache, cookies, and history for me, it should work then (It should be working now too regardless :) )
