iPhone/iTouch owners can now use our site directly!

Postby Owen » Fri Dec 11, 2009 12:20 am

So hang on ... a global site announcement? This must be big!
Well ... it is! As the subject says, just like the standalone facebook app, iPhone/iTouch users can now browse the MINI Club of Ireland's site directly on their device, without having to use their browser, or enter their username and password each time. It's just as easy as facebook to use on the iPhone/iTouch - and probably even easier than the site itself.

How do I set this up?
You need to download TouchBB. There's a free version, and a slightly more advanced version for 79 cent. Once you've downloaded the app, you need to tell it how to get here and access the information. Go into the settings menu, and for the access url, put http://miniclub.ie/forum/, and then simply enter your username and password.

What can I see when using this app?
The entire forum, your PMs, popular threads, who's online, the entire member's list, and you also have the ability to search the forum.

Wow, sounds cool, but what does it look like?
I've put three screenshots below. The first is the iPhone/iTouch springboard. The icon for this program, TouchBB is the yellow LOL one at the bottom. The second screenshot is the main forum, and the third screenshot is an individual thread. Images are automatically resized to fit in the window. In the second, and third shots, you can also see the menus at the bottom for jumping between the forum, PMs, and search.

Just finished updating the server for the new version of TouchBB which is about to hit the appstore. In a day or so, you'll be able to update your TouchBB app, and the new version, combined with the server updates, will allow you to see the unread posts, and on the long topics pagination has been enabled so they're no longer one big thread.

Should make the mobile version of the site much easier to digest :)

Great stuff! Thanks, this will be especially helpful like you said for long pages, I've often tried to scroll to end to add & one slip & I lose it all!!

This is great Owen :)
As Siobhan said, to get to the end of a long thread like say your R53 project one for example, up to now you had to flick away the pages till the end! Major pain, so pages on it would be icing on the cake :)
