Monosodium glutamate, sodium glutamate, flavour enhancer 621, EU food additive code: E621, HS code: 29224220 (IUPAC name 2-aminopentanedioic acid. Also known as 2-aminoglutaric acid), commonly known as MSG, Ajinomoto, Vetsin, or Accent, is a sodium salt of glutamic acid. MSG is a food additive and it is commonly marketed as a "flavour enhancer".

Although traditional Asian cuisine uses flavour-enhancing ingredients which contain high concentrations of MSG, it was not isolated until 1907. MSG was subsequently patented by the Japanese Ajinomoto Corporation in 1909. In its pure form, it appears as a white crystalline powder; when dissolved in water (or saliva) it rapidly dissociates into sodium cations and glutamate anions (glutamate is the anionic form of glutamic acid, a naturally occurring amino acid).

TASTEE they are the WORST of the offenders , I had to get up one night at 3 am and go online to find an antidote for MSG effects after a meal there --- the last btw --- oh and the best antidote for MSG is Coco -Cola mixed with salt . I think You are confusing Tastee with Lemongrass Ferg

I am surprised that the Japanese invented or patented MSG as they don't use it in their cooking now , I really like Japanese food and anyone fortunate enough to experience Teppan style cooking where a 'live' show by a 'lunatic' Chef on a large hot plate is the focal point will understand what I mean , Brummie , Alvin and Myself had a meal at TeppanYaki in Brum a few years ago and it was a serious laugh , last time I was at a teppan restaurant was in Aachen before a visit to AC Schnitzer with My R56 last July . can't wait for someone to open one in Cork .

Maybe they changed recently.
It is hard to find a nice place that has everything --- good atmosphere, great food, reasonable etc etc. though.
