BELGIUM transport network

Postby Starrywalsh » Fri Aug 15, 2008 2:39 pm

Hey all,

I was wondering if anybody has any info on public transport in Belgium? Is it good, on time etc etc I'm heading there in September and I don't know whether to rent a car or just use trains/buses/trams etc.

Mark,

You'll have no worries, the transport system is very user friendly, and very clean/efficient.

If your going between the major cities, get the express (I think it's called the Bummel Train) train, otherwise, you the train stops everywhere.

Have soem friends over there, so I can make enquiries on your behalf if you'd like......

That would be great Derek, I just need to know the best way to get from Brussels to Antwerp.

Ah, that's no hassle so! It's really easy to make your way about....
There's a train in Brussels airport, that will take you direct to Brussels Centraal Station.
And then the take the Bummel to Antwerp. Be careful that you don't get the slow train, the express takes only about 40 minutes, but the other could take up to 2 hours!

Will check with the crazy Belgians over the weekend, and get back to you with the details!

So, I was in touch with my friend in Antwerp yesterday, and she said to STAY AWAY FROM THE BUMMEL TRAIN!

That's the one that stops everywhere. The trains in Belgium are so efficient that they stick to the timetable (what a novel idea!), so if the arrival time in Antwerp is 90 - 120 minutes, that's the one that stops at every station.

She didn't say what the express was called, only that it was best to get the direct train instead.
