New Renault Megane.

Postby Derfinn » Wed Nov 19, 2008 3:18 pm

Has anyone seen the new Renault Megane?

I was over collecting bits and pieces at the Airside Retail Park in Swords, and happened past the drove past the Renault showroom. They had a Coupé in the window, and it really is a lovely looking car.

I had to go in for a closer look. lol All I can say if I was changing away from the MINI, I'd go for one of these! It is only available in diesel, but apparently petrol is a special order option.

The salesman came over. I told him I just came in for a closer look. They have a promotion were everyone who test drives is in with a chance to win one!

Okay, it is a different league to the MINI, but it also has an eclectic dashboard, the speedo is digital and the rev counter is analogue. It was a nice drive, nice and smooth. Was expecting a very heavy clutch, but it wasn't that bad at all. However, I don't think that it would ever want to be driven as much as a MINI, so I think I 'll keep what I have!

I'd never ever ever buy a Renault. They're possibly one of the least reliable cars on the road, and depreciate like nobody's business. Plus, the Megane Coupé is 38k! Who would spend 38k on a Renault?

I know what you mean, they don't build them like they used to!

I can remember however, a 1984 Renault 20 that my Dad used to own. He had this car for about 8 years, and yes he did have to replace many parts on it.

But the mileage on it was savage. The odometer read over 250K when it left the family, and I don't think it was working for the last year we owned it!

The Coupe isn't that expensive. The top o' the range model is €29k. Still you can get a Clubman D for that!

Sorry, it was the Laguna Coupé that was 38k. Either way, anything over 20k is too much for Renault IMO. Horrible manufacturer.

Bomber,

Not like the old 19s and 21 you had John. Now they were great cars.

Another Renault to remember

Postby leyland » Thu Nov 27, 2008 11:41 am

Renault Espace, What a car, it had everything. I can remember being in one that brought a mini engine , 6 sets of wheels, gearbox and panels home from a show in the UK not so long ago for Mini club members and it was fantastic. Eat up the motor ways (wont tell you what it was doing) and very good on petrol. Car was 11 years old at the time. And it will never rust. Maybe the new Renaults are different but I doubt it with the technology available.

On mature recollection ,Yes what a great van… but rust or no rust
I believe it has now gone where all Renault go at a early age …
to the Great Renault Graveyard in the Sky….

RIP. :angel7:

I saw one on the road the other night, must say it did look different, sleek and good for a pile of French crap :)

Had a test drive in one in Dublin last week, Really nice drive and a bit different like the MINI. Lovely gear box aswell. I think they have got it right with the car this time round.
