Remap Specialists – Maybe one for the lads up north

Postby Baker » Fri Feb 20, 2009 1:43 am

I’m travelling up to Ballymena to have a remap carried out on my new arrival,my Alfa 159 JTDm. I’m thinking about using a company called Torquetronix www.torquetronix.co.uk The have developed a remap that will bring the car from 150bhp & 305nm torque to 200bhp and 395 nm torque, this is aided by the use of a rolling road. The other option was Red dot in the uk but it’s less hassle to just go up north.

Has anyone any experience with Torquetronix? I hear very good reports of both in the Alfa owners web site.

Another question, I’ve only got 1,500 Km on the car, will this “effect” in any way the remap or should I wait until I have open the car up a little more?

Thanks for you help

P

There is no problem re-mapping at your mileage but you won't see the best results until you have a few more miles done . don't know the company you are talking about and remapping is a minefield , its very easy to remap any car and some do it correctly others just push out the fueling and timing without taking into account the long term problems . others do it correctly and stay within the paramaters of good practice . We have done lots of MINIs and never had a problem , a good remap will improve power , torque , and economy and also 'drivaability' which is the most important of all next to improved torque , lots of re-mappers go for headline power figures and forget that the car has to be driven every day , sure its great to go to the pub and say my car has xxx bhp a + 40% increase BUT at what cost to economy and driveability ? I am sure the people you list are fine and I know the Alfa JTD responds well to a good remap , the most improved cars We have done must be the R50 MINI one ---it transforms the car . also the BMW 530D is 'mental' after a good remap , We will be in a position to remap lots more cars soon inc R56 MINIs . btw I saw Pat's Alfa last week and its a serious car , looks really well .

Oh, just up the road from me :) - and I'd never heard of them, although I do recall Andy Simpson talking about someone in that area with regard to MINI tuning. No idea if it's the same people or not. :l I'll ask some of the guys from Ballymena if they've heard anything about them.

I see they quote figures for R50 One D and R56 Cooper D remaps - Cooper D up to 140Bhp, sounds like fun! :1icon_eek: I've no idea if that is sensible or not - Ger?

There is an irish alfa owners club online so you should get some info there. Thats the car I'd have if I didn't have a mini, but in Dark blue or black.
