Project R75

Postby Owen » Sat Jun 06, 2009 4:17 pm

Couldn't resist the title, because I now too own a Rover 75. The Cooper S Works is grand and all, but I can't use it every day, and I don't want to either. So I needed a second car to be pottering about in, and for the band. Had thought of getting a L200 with a canopy and crewcab, or something similar, but last night I bought myself an 02 Rover 75 Estate, Connoisseur SE + Electric Pack, 71k miles, automatic transmission, diesel (320d engine), and the spec is :

Silver Metallic
17" Alloys
Leather
Heated Seats
Electrically Adjustable Seats with Memory
PDC
Climate Control
Cruise Control
Traction Control
Sunroof
Xenon Headlamps with Washers
Folding Mirrors
Autodimming Rearview Mirror
Wooden Dash & Leather/Wooden Steering Wheel
Front Fogs
Harmon Kardon Sound System
SatNav
TV
6 Disc CD Changer

One of the most comfortable cars I've driven in a long time, and having all the toys is a complete hoot. She needs the front bumper touched up, an update disc for the SatNav, a second key, a new windscreen, and a phone kit fitted, but otherwise, I couldn't possibly be any happier with it.

Some people might recognise the dashboard panel second from the left, it's the same one that was used in the MINI from 2001-2004 if you ordered a wood trim. The SatNav/TV is from a BMW, as is the sunroof, engine and gearbox, and boot interior too.

It's looking mint in the pics.

Well wear again, and your right, a much better choice (for what you need) than a L200.

Looking good :king:

Well wear with the new motor. I'm a big fan of the Rover 75, it's a great car, IMHO. especially these early ones which avoided the later cost cutting of MG Rover.

Technically though, shouldn't the thread be named Project R40? ;)

Im sure most people would have been like, "WTF is an R40 - is he after buying half a Rover 45 or what?" :)

As Mark says, the 75 is a stunning car and really shows what Rover could have been. OTOH it does make me glad that BMW kept the MINI brand, I really do doubt that MG-Rover could have made the MINI work in quite the same way.
