Things have been quite busy over my weekend (sunday to tuesday).
My glove box became stuck after the car valet day, it just wouldn't open at all. Once I had managed to get it to open, I found that the hook had snapped at it's base. I wasn't worried, how hard could it be to get one of these hooks and replace it?... I got Ger to order what I thought was the part, but that turns out it is just the catch and not the hook part.
BMW, make the glove box door by sonic plastic welding the fascia plastic and inside panel of the door, with the lock in the middle. You can't replace the hook, you have to buy a full new glove box...
Sod that.
I made a silicone mould of the broken hook part and cast a new hook using some liquid plastic mixed with fibre glass and my fix snapped too
Queue a second attempt, but I think I used the wrong ratio of the 2 part liquid plastic and it was too soft (that was the one I showed you Ger)
My 3rd attempt, I used a slower cure and more glass fibre and it seems *knock wood* to be good. So I have put the glove box door back together with some epoxy glue. Fingers crossed it stays fixed
Broken hook and the mould:

It does look very rough, but it seems to be working and no one will see the catch unless I leave the glove box open
So if anyone breaks their glove box hook (and the gloves box is a locking one), I can make you a new one
